Tap-to-review NFC card

30 minutes, mostly waiting for delivery · 5 steps

An NFC tag opens your review page when a customer taps their phone on it — no scanning. (NFC is the same short-range technology used for contactless card payments.)

  1. 01

    Buy NTAG213 stickers

Use the NTAG213 chip — enough memory for a web address and the cheapest option. About £0.20–£0.30 each, or £3–£6 for a pack of 10, from ZipNFC, Seritag or Amazon.

NoteFor metal surfaces (a till or metal counter), buy "on-metal" tags — ordinary ones won't read through metal.
  2. 02

    Install the NFC Tools app

Install the free NFC Tools app (by wakdev) for iPhone or Android.

  3. 03

Write your wizard link to the tag

Open NFC Tools → WriteAdd a recordURL/URI, paste your wizard link, and tap Write. Hold the tag against your phone (iPhone: top edge; Android: middle of the back).

  4. 04

    Password-protect it, don't lock it

Use NFC Tools' password feature so you can update the link later. The "Lock tag" option is permanent and can never be undone.

AvoidDon't use "Lock tag" — it's permanent. Use a password instead.
  5. 05

    Place it with a label

Stick it where phones rest: the bill folder, card-machine stand, corner of a menu, or back of a business card. Add a label such as "Tap your phone here for a quick review".

NoteiPhone XS (2018) and newer read tags automatically. iPhone 7, 8 and X need NFC Tag Reader added to Control Centre. iPhone 6s and older can't read tags — print a QR next to the tag to cover them.
