Add a review prompt to your receipts

About 15 minutes per till · 4 steps

Square, Zettle and SumUp don't let you add a free image to a printed receipt. You have two things to work with: the logo slot and a custom message line.

  1. 01

Know what each card machine allows

Square: printed-receipt logo (black and white only) plus a custom message. SumUp: logo upload plus a custom message. Zettle: a custom text line. Its logo is for digital receipts, not printed ones.

  2. 02

    Make the QR image

A scannable code has to go in the logo slot. On your Manage page, click Download PNG. Save it as a square, pure black-and-white image, at least 15 mm wide on the printed receipt. Add a short caption such as "Scan to review".

NoteReceipt printers print in black and white only. Don't use colour or grey, or the code may not scan.
  3. 03

Upload it, or set your message

Square: Settings → Account & Settings → Business → Branding. Create a theme, upload the printed-receipt logo (at least 400×200 px, black and white) and add your message. Square — customise receipts. SumUp: back office → Configuration → Your Business → Edit. Turn on "Logo on receipt", upload, then Update. SumUp help centre. Zettle: my.zettle.com → Account & Settings → Receipt settings. Type your review line into the "More information" field. Zettle — customising receipts.

    Test it

Ring up a 1p sale, refund it, and scan the printed receipt with your phone. If it doesn't scan, increase the size and contrast, or use the text line instead of the image.
